ArawaMail vs Microsoft 365 for Business Email
Microsoft 365 is a productivity suite with Exchange. ArawaMail is inboxes plus a Resend-compatible send API on your domain. Compare 2026 list prices, seats vs company plans, and who should stay on Microsoft.
ArawaMail is not a Microsoft 365 replacement. Microsoft 365 is a productivity suite that includes Exchange Online. ArawaMail is an email platform for company-managed domains: hosted mailboxes and a Resend-compatible transactional send API on one authenticated domain. Both can host [email protected]. Only one of them is built so password-reset mail does not need a seat per automated identity.
The buyer this page is for opened Microsoft pricing, added three or four Business Basic seats, then realized receipts and verification codes still need a sending API. Suite email is not that API. Most Microsoft tenants bolt on Amazon SES, Postmark, or ArawaMail for app mail. Compare the transactional email product and business email product separately from Office.
What each product actually is
- Microsoft 365 sells per-user seats. Business Basic (list $7.00/user/mo with Teams as of 1 July 2026; no-Teams $5.40) includes web Office, Teams, Exchange, and OneDrive. Business Standard is $14.00 ($10.79 without Teams). Business Premium stays $22.00 ($18.79 without Teams). Exchange Online Plan 1 remains Microsoft’s email-only SKU (about $4/user/mo; list unchanged in the July 2026 commercial update). Existing customers stay on old prices until renewal. Confirm live figures on Microsoft’s plans page before you buy.
- ArawaMail sells per-company plans on arawamail.com/pricing (checked 15 Sep 2026): Free $0, Pro $20, Business $80 per month. Included transactional sends are 3,000 / 50,000 / 100,000. Overages $0.0004 Pro / $0.0003 Business; Free has no overage. Domains 1 / 10 / 50. Team members 1 / 10 / 50. Mailbox storage 1 / 10 / 50 GB. Calendar and contacts are on the public table. Inbox and sent mail stay until you delete them, subject to storage. Transactional records retain 45 / 60 / 90 days.
Microsoft mailbox capacity packaging added +50 GB Exchange storage on Business suites in summer 2026. Independent writeups and some comparison tables describe 100 GB per user; Microsoft Learn service descriptions may still list 50 GB during the September 2026 rollout. Treat mailbox size as market- and tenant-specific until your admin center shows the new quota.
Worked example: 3 people + 40,000 app emails
Three Business Basic seats at $7.00 list = $21/month for people mail, Teams, and OneDrive. That still does not include a public JSON send API. If the product also sends 40,000 password-resets and receipts, you add a third-party sender.
ArawaMail Pro is $20/month and includes 50,000 transactional sends, so 40,000 app messages fit the cap with no overage. You get custom-domain mailboxes on the same domain after Activate receiving and Activate sending. You do not get desktop Word, Teams, SharePoint, or 1 TB OneDrive.
If the studio already lives in Outlook + Teams + desktop Office, keep Microsoft for humans and treat app mail as a separate product. If the buying problem is “inboxes + API on our domain” and nobody needs the suite, ArawaMail Pro is the cheaper complete mail stack for that example.

Who should stay on Microsoft
- Teams standardized on Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.
- Tenants that need Business Premium compliance, Intune, or Defender packaging.
- Anyone whose “email” purchase is really a suite purchase.
Who should look at ArawaMail
- A SaaS that needs billing@ plus an API for password resets without a seat per automated identity.
- Operators who already keep domains on Cloudflare and want receiving + sending + mailboxes in one onboarding path: add domain → Activate receiving → Activate sending → create accounts → API keys. See ArawaMail DNS Records and Connect a Cloudflare Domain.
- Teams leaving a suite for cost who will accept IMAP clients instead of Exchange. Use the migration checklist for MX cutover. The Google Workspace move pattern is documented at migrate from Google Workspace; ArawaMail does not document a Microsoft exporter.
How we analyzed this
ArawaMail cells are limited to public docs (Introduction, domain onboarding, Cloudflare requirements, email accounts, sending, Connect Device, outgoing webhooks) and the live pricing page on 15 Sep 2026. Microsoft list prices follow Microsoft’s 1 July 2026 commercial licensing update. Mailbox-size figures are flagged because Learn docs and the rolling packaging change still disagree in September 2026. We did not invent Exchange sync, ActiveSync, or Outlook add-ins for ArawaMail.

FAQ
Direct answers.
Is ArawaMail a Microsoft 365 replacement?
No. It does not replace Word, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, or Exchange ActiveSync.
Can both host [email protected]?
Yes. Do not publish both MX sets at once. Cut over receiving in one window.
Which is cheaper for 3 mailboxes plus 40,000 app emails?
Three Basic seats are $21/mo and still need a send API. ArawaMail Pro is $20/mo and includes 50,000 transactional sends. If you also need Teams and desktop Office, keep Microsoft for people and add a sender.
Does ArawaMail require Cloudflare?
Yes. The Cloudflare zone name must match the domain.
Does Microsoft include a Resend-style public send API?
Treat as no. Most tenants attach SES, Postmark, or ArawaMail for app mail.
Who should stay on Microsoft?
Teams that need the suite, Business Premium compliance tooling, or existing Outlook workflows.
